There are problems in the way the plan is produced

No comparison of the situation in term vs. outside term
Limited comparisons – only with previous year rather than all earlier travel plans
Flaws in estimating how many parking places there are
  1. It is clear to neighbours that parking and traffic issues at pickup and dropoff times are are vastly less outside term time. There is no mention of this in the report.
  1. Previous Travel plans have shown several years of data, making it much easier to see fluctuations and longer term trends.
  1. The 5.5m space per vehicle is said to be ‘generous’. Most parents arrive in large vehicles. A Range Rover is 4.37m long and 1.9m wide – is 5.5m generous? The plan may also use figures based on 5.0m spaces, even less realistic.
  2. It is not made clear how available parking places were surveyed. If they were obtained by dividing total street length by 5.5m, then there is considerable over-estimation since this does not consider dropped kerbs, etc. The result is an under-estimation of parking stress (no. of cars seen parked/no. of spaces available). For example, in Wensleydale Gardens there are said to be 18 ‘restricted’ spaces. A fairer estimate would be 16 – giving a roughly 10% higher stress level (even before the reduction in spaces through yellow line introduction).
